Tony Das

Easily one of Bangalore's most polished and technically skilled rock guitarists, Tony began his journey on the instrument when he first chanced on a copy of Joe Satriani's Flying In A Blue Dream. The natural impulse of wanting to copy what what coming through his speakers, pushed him into a rigorous practice regimen. In time, he was able to get a taste of live playing as second guitarist with city band Mixed Fruit Jam. Tony's musicianship soon began to distinguish itself enough to find himself playing bass for the hugely popular Chennai rockers Moksha, and guitar with Bangalore's own mavens Thermal And A Quarter. He is a frequent presence on the city's big stages with bands like Bhoomi and Hindi-rockers Karma 6, who are signed to Columbia Records. In addition to his regular engagements, Tony is also a first call sessions player who has played live and in the studio with the likes of Prakash Sontakke, Sandeep Chowta and Raghu Dixit. Tony and his bandmates in Bhoomi have been working with Grammy Award-winning producer Neil Kernon on their debut album. Tony's playing is also featured on Matters Of The Heart, a soon to be released project by Sandeep Chowta, which features almost 50 of the world's best jazz musicians, including Scott Henderson, Dave Weckl, Brett Garsed, Jimmy Johnson, Simon Philips, Mitch Forman, Frank Gambale, Gary Willis and many more.
